A. Use of the Websites and the mobile application
By using the website “www.euronews.com”, any of its sub-domains, “www.africanews.com” or our mobile application, you agree to these terms of use. If you do not agree to these terms of use, please do not use our websites nor our mobile application. You may download one copy of the materials on any single computer for your personal, non-commercial home use only, provided that:
you keep intact all copyright and other proprietary notices;
you make no modifications to the materials;
you do not use the materials in a manner that suggests an association with any of our products, services, or brands;
you do not download quantities of materials to a database that can be used to avoid future downloads from this website. For purposes of these terms, the use of any such material on any other website or computer environment is prohibited.
The Euronews’ and Africanews’ websites and our mobile application contains copyrighted material, trademarks and other proprietary information, including, but not limited to, text, photos, video, graphics, music, sound and software.
The entire contents of Euronews’ and Africanews’ websites and our mobile application are copyrighted under the French copyright law. You may not modify, publish, translate, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit, any of the content, in whole or in part.
You may download copyrighted material for your personal use only. Except as otherwise expressly permitted under French copyright law, no copying, redistribution, retransmission, publication or commercial exploitation of downloaded material will be permitted without the express permission of Euronews and Africanews and the copyright owner. In the event of any permitted copying, redistribution or publication of copyrighted material, no changes in or deletion of author attribution, trademark legend or copyright notice shall be made.
You shall not upload, post or otherwise make available on Euronews, Africanews or our mobile application any material protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owner of the copyright, trademark or other proprietary right. You shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights, proprietary rights, or any other harm resulting from such a submission.
Any unlawful use of the website can result in legal action.
B. The Feedback
The “Feedback” means the message board, or e-mail function offered as part of this Site. If you participate in the Feedback, you must not:
defame, abuse, harass or threaten others;
make any bigoted, hateful, or racially offensive statements;
infringe human rights;
advocate illegal activity or discuss illegal activities with the intent to commit them;
post or distribute any material that infringes and/or violates any right of a third party or any law;
post or distribute any vulgar, obscene, discourteous, or indecent language or images;

We reserve the right to remove or edit content from the Forum at any time and for any reason.
By submitting any materials to the Feedback, you automatically grant (or warrant that the owner of such materials expressly granted) us a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and display, create derivative works from and distribute such materials or incorporate such materials into any form, medium, or technology now known or later developed throughout the universe.
Information obtained in the Feedback may not be reliable. We cannot be responsible for the content or accuracy of any information, and shall not be responsible for any trading or investment decisions made based on such information.
If you are under 16, please get a parent’s or guardian’s permission before taking part in any Euronews’, Africanews’ discussion. Never reveal any personal information about yourself or anyone else (for example, telephone number, home address or email address).

Euronews’, Africanews’ or our mobile app’s content, including the information, names, images, pictures, logos and icons regarding or relating to Euronews’, Africanews’ or our mobile app’s, it’s products and services (or to third party products and services), is provided “as is” and on an “is available” basis without any representations or any kind of warranty made (whether express or implied by law), including the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, compatibility, security and accuracy.
We cannot ensure that you will be satisfied with any products or services that you purchase from a third-party site that links to or from the website or third-party content on our sites. We do not endorse any of the merchandise, nor have we taken any steps to confirm the accuracy or reliability of, any of the information contained in such third-party sites or content.
D. Limitation of Liability
1) Euronews undertakes to do its utmost to guarantee the truthfulness and accuracy of the information available on all the Sites and on our mobile application. However, Euronews and Africanews cannot be held responsible for the inaccuracy thereof, nor for the use or interpretation thereof by Users.
Under no circumstances, including, but not limited to, negligence, shall we be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages that result from the use of, or the inability to use, the sites, our mobile application or materials or functions on our sites and application, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
2) Websites and our mobile application also provide access to Partner Services, via clickable advertising elements (banners, videos, etc.) or via hypertext links integrated into various sections of the Websites and our mobile application and referring to sites, content and services published by said partners.
The User acknowledges that these Partner Services are totally independent of Euronews and Africanews. Consequently, any use of the Partner Services via the Sites and our mobile application will be subject exclusively to the conditions of use and/or sale specific to each Partner Service as well as to their personal data protection policy.
Euronews and Africanews may not be held liable for the content accessible, for all offers, information consulted or transactions carried out on the Partner Services. Similarly, Euronews and Africanews offers no guarantee as to the terms and conditions of application of the regulations in force by the publishers of the Partner Services, who are solely responsible for them.
3) The Sites, application and Services are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Euronews and Africanews will use their best efforts to guarantee accessibility to the Sites, application and Services but Euronews and Africanews may not be held liable due to risks of interruption or malfunction related to connection, maintenance operations, editorial updates, congestion of networks and/or computer systems, intrusion by unauthorized third parties and contamination by any viruses circulating on said networks and services, internal or external strikes, incorrect configuration or use of the User’s computer, or any other cause whether or not dependent on the User’s will.
Euronews and Africanews shall not be held liable in case of interruption or deterioration in the quality of the Sites, application and Services is due to the occurrence of a case of force majeure. Any event of force majeure or fortuitous event, as defined by current French legislation, is considered to be a case of force majeure.
4) Users may comment on Content posted on the Sites or application (hereinafter referred to as “Comments”), and/or upload texts, videos, sounds, images and/or photographs (hereinafter referred to as “User Content”). These Comments and User Content may be viewed by any Internet user visiting the Sites and our mobile application.
Euronews and Africanews does not carry out any a priori control of the User Content and/or Comments posted online by Users, who thus remain responsible for the content of the Comments and/or User Content of which they are the authors.
Under no circumstances may Euronews or Africanews be held liable on the basis of Comments and/or User Content that may have been posted online by a User who does not hold the necessary rights for such posting.
Any User who posts Comments and/or User Content on the Sites or on our application expressly authorizes Euronews, free of charge and on a non-exclusive basis, to retain, reproduce and represent said Comments and/or User Content on the Sites or on our application for the entire duration of the intellectual property rights as of their publication.
5) Euronews and Africanews are not responsible for consequences of children under 16 years old’s access to the websites nor to the mobile application as they are not authorized to access it without their parents’ consent.
The holder(s) of parental authority is (are) responsible for compliance with all the provisions of these terms and conditions when using the Sites or the mobile application by the person under 16 years old’s User.
Parents (or holders of parental authority) are invited to monitor their children’s Use of the Services and to bear in mind that the Services are intended to reach a wide audience and that, in their capacity as legal guardians, it is the parents’ responsibility to determine which Web site is or is not appropriate for their child(ren) and to monitor their Use thereof.
E. Users
Access to the Sites or to the mobile app is free and does not require prior registration.
However, certain services offered on the Sites (such as the sending of newsletters) may require prior registration, identification and use of a User Account.
When creating a User Account, the User will be asked to choose a personal identifier and potentially an associated password, which are strictly personal and confidential. A registration form will be submitted to the User so that he/she may provide Euronews and Africanews with certain mandatory or optional personal information as indicated on the form. If the User fails to provide the information mentioned as mandatory, the User Account will not be validated.
This personal data is collected directly from the User to enable him/her to be easily identified on future connections, and to provide additional services and/or access. This personal data is stored with the User’s consent and will be processed as defined in paragraph F of these terms and conditions. It is retained from the date of creation of the User Account and for the entire period of use of the Services. The User data is kept for a maximum period of three years after the user’s last connection or it can be delete within a month on a request for deletion of the Account or by the User himself.
F. Privacy Policy

G. Modifications of the Website / Termination

Your access to the Sites or to the application may be terminated immediately without notice from us if in our sole discretion you fail to comply with any term or provision of these terms. Free access to Euronews content is funded by advertising revenues on the Site and app.

Refusing targeted advertising does not mean you will no longer see ads on the Site, but they will not be personalized based on your personal data.
Article comments
We allow you to comment on our articles. We use a third-party provider with whom you must create an account. If you consent, your personal data (name, email address, browsing and connection data) are collected by our provider, who acts as an independent controller.
Please note this provider is located outside the European Economic Area. Euronews has signed a data protection agreement and the new Standard Contractual Clauses of June 4, 2021 adopted by the European Commission with this provider.
Euronews has access to all data relating to the use of the commenting service to understand user reactions to our articles and may moderate comments.

Comment Moderation Policy
Core principles
- Respect for others: Users are expected to interact courteously. Insulting, hateful, discriminatory, or harassing speech is not tolerated, regardless of grounds (origin, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other legally protected characteristic). As a French company, Euronews applies French law as a priority, even over conflicting local laws.
- Pluralism of opinions: Diversity of views is welcome, provided it is expressed respectfully and within applicable legal frameworks.
- Editorial independence: We do not allow partisan political, commercial, or propaganda comments. Any content inciting violence or illegal acts will be removed.
Prohibited content
The following are not allowed:
- Insulting, defamatory, hateful, or discriminatory remarks
- Any incitement to violence, terrorism, hatred, or unlawful behavior
- The deliberate spread of false information or manipulated content
- Advertising, commercial messages, promotions, or spam
- Explicit sexual content, shocking material, or anything harmful to minors
- Identity theft, fake profiles, or attempts to manipulate discussions
Euronews reserves the right not to publish comments that fall into these categories.
Reporting and handling
- A reporting tool is available under each comment, allowing any user to flag inappropriate or illegal content.
- Reports are handled diligently and fairly, although automated tools may be used for initial review.
Right to appeal
- Any user whose comment has been moderated (deleted, hidden, or whose account has been suspended) may appeal via contact@euronews.com. To process your request, please provide your email address, the date and time of the comment, and the language in which it was posted.
- External appeal: If internal resolution is unsatisfactory, you may refer the matter to an EU-certified out-of-court dispute resolution body or take legal action.
Transparency of decisions
- For every moderation (deletion or restriction of a comment), the author has the right to request an explanation specifying the applicable rule.
- This moderation policy is publicly available and is part of our privacy policy.
- All comments are initially reviewed by automated tools. The automation tool, OpenAI, measures the level of toxicity and likelihood of spam. Publication depends on this evaluation.
- We regularly publish reports on the use of these tools, their performance, and error rates, in accordance with the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Sanctions
- In cases of repeated or serious violations of this policy, we reserve the right to ban users from commenting on our Sites. Such decisions are always preceded by clear notification and may be appealed.
Social Media
Share buttons for Facebook, X (Twitter), WhatsApp, LinkedIn, etc. trigger data collection by these platforms once clicked.
These platforms act under their own responsibility. We invite you to consult their privacy policies.
Videos
We use several video players, including YouTube (Google), Dailymotion, and JW Player:
- Once you accept cookies, the video player may collect personal data. Playing a video means that you accept their terms of use. Please read their privacy policy.

These platforms are independent data controllers. Euronews only receives aggregated statistics, which are used for performance measurement purposes, based on our legitimate interest.

- If you are a professional, we may contact you based on our legitimate interest (in line with the ePrivacy Directive). In such cases, you have the right to object at any time, for any reason, to the processing of your data for this purpose.

- Our advertising partners, if you have given your consent
When these recipients are located outside the European Economic Area, we implement appropriate legal safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to ensure an adequate level of protection for your Data.
- How long do we keep your data?
We only keep your personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
Cookies
- Cookies used for advertising or audience measurement purposes generally expire within 13 months.
Your Account
- The data you shared when creating your account is retained for 3 years after your last contact with us.
- If you request to delete your account, we have a maximum of one month to anonymise the data you shared when creating your account.
- After 365 days of inactivity (no newsletter opens, no site visits), your data is deleted from our newsletter management platform and you will no longer receive communications from us.
Newsletters
If we notice that you are not opening any of our newsletters, we reserve the right to send you a reminder email to find out your intentions.
Comments
- Your data is retained for 30 days after you unsubscribe or request deletion.
Surveys and questionnaires
- Your data is retained for 3 years after your last interaction with us.
Account login
- Your data is retained for 13 months after your last interaction with your account.
After that, the data is deleted or anonymised in an irreversible manner.
